CONCEPT - TO INTRODUCE A MICRO STITCHING UNIT TO EMPOWER FLOOD-AFFECTED WOMEN

 


- DOUBLES UP AS A SHELTER DURING EMERGENCY

- INTEGRATES EXISTING SYSTEMS (NGOs, GOVERNING BODIES) AND STAKEHOLDERS TO ALLOW FOR LIVELIHOOD GENERATION ACTIVITIES (STITCHING UNIT IN THIS CASE), MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLING, DAYCARE FOR CHILDREN AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING.

​TO DESIGN A COMMUNITY GATHERING AREA WHICH ENABLES THE WOMEN OF A FLOOD-AFFECTED COMMUNITY TO COPE BETTER DURING THE POST-FLOOD REHABILITATION PERIOD. AT THE TIME OF THE DISASTER (FLOODING), IT CAN ALSO BE USED AS AN IMMEDIATE RELIEF SPACE BY THE LOCALITY.

FEATURES OF FLOOD-RESISTANT DESIGN INCLUDE REIFORCED CONCRETE FOUNDATION, STILTS, GIRDERS, RAISED PLINTH LEVEL, WATERPROOF TATCH, DOUBLE GLAZING, TERRACOTA TILES, A LONG HALLWAY WHIOCH CAN DOUBLE UP AS A COMMUNITY SHELTER, WIDE DOORS AND WINDOWS FOR EMERGENCY EXIT.
